Progress Updates
50 Megawatt Interconnection Request Accepted into Big Stone II Transmission Backfill
As of June 2010, the Midwest Independent Transmission Operator (MISO), has accepted Little Rock Wind's 50 megawatt interconnection request into the Big Stone II Transmission backfill study group. As a result, Little Rock Wind's interconnection request has advanced into MISO's third and final study phase. The project is now waiting for more information from MISO on transmission design and system upgrade costs. This is a very positive development for the project because the project can advance its interconnect study schedule.
Currently, Little Rock Wind has leased approximately 10,000 acres and recorded over two years of on-site meteorological tower data, which has indicated an excellent wind regime. The project has also completed its initial environmental assessments and filed a draft site permit with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.
10,000 Acres Signed
As of October 2009, Little Rock Wind, LLC signed 10,000 acres toward the development of a 150 megawatt wind project. This is enough contiguous acres to develop the project's first 50 megawatt phase.
Big Stone Wind Acquisition
Little Rock Wind, LLC, announced on June 3rd, 2009 the closing of its asset purchase agreement with community-owned wind project Big Stone Wind, LLC. The assets acquired include development capital, land rights, an 80 meter meteorological tower and historical wind data, and various in-progress development assets.
Project Formation
Little Rock Wind announced its formation on March 12th, 2009. National Wind partnered with several Big Stone County landowners to from this community-based wind energy development company. The company intends to develop 150 megawatts of community-owned wind energy projects over the next 5-7 years in Big Stone County.
